18 weeks old Majestic Court Golden Bam-Boo owned by Jean Richland, USA, having his first examination to be C.E.R.F. (He passed with flying colors!). The Vet, Dr. Douglas Slatter B.V.Sc., M.S., Ph.D. (from Australia) was happy to have his picture taken. (Our thanks to Jean for supplying the photograph and Dr. Slatter's details) Dr Slatter received his veterinary degree from the University of Queensland in 1970. After completing a surgical residency, and Master of Science degree in veterinary ophthalmology at Washington State University, he completed a Doctorate of Philosophy in ophthalmic surgery at Colorado State University in 1975, and Diplomas of the American Colleges of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (1975) and Veterinary Surgeons (1976) and European College of Veterinary Surgeons (1994). He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (London), author of "Fundamentals of Veterinary Ophthalmology" and "Textbook of Veterinary Surgery" which has been translated into three languages. He was formerly Associate Professor of Ophthalmology and Surgery, Murdoch University, Western Australia, and visiting Professor of Ophthalmology, Scheie Eye Institute, University of Pennsylvania, and is currently a faculty member of the Southern California College of Optometry in Fullerton. Dr. Slatter is an internationally known speaker and lecturer." Unfortunately, Dr. Slatter and his wife were killed in a freak car accident in March 2005 on one of their many trips home from Orange County to tend to their Australian practice. |
